2021.10.19 01:12 dexter_analyst Something people might miss from the "GameStop Report"

cf pg 29 - emphasis mine:

One of the main drivers of a gamma squeeze is an influx of call option purchases, which causes market makers to hedge their writing of the call options by purchasing the underlying stock, driving up the stock price in the process. While staff did find GME options trading volume from individual customers increased substantially, from only $58.5 million on January 21 to $563.4 million on January 22 until peaking at $2.4 billion on January 27, this increase in options trading volume was mostly driven by an increase in the buying of put, rather than call, options. Further, data show that market-makers were buying, rather than writing, call options. These observations by themselves are not consistent with a gamma squeeze.
Oh? And might the SEC have anything to say about that? Perhaps at least to tell us how it's not buy-writing going on?
To justify the educational flair, I'll summarize the link. Options activity of both calls and puts can be associated with an attempt to get around Regulation SHO (for anybody new to it, a regulation that governs short selling rules and was instituted in an attempt to deal with failures to deliver [FTDs]). Market makers buying options is unusual, usually they're selling the options. This being the case, it seems like there should be more information as to the nature of this activity in the report.
I find the lack of discussion surrounding this options activity in the report suspicious, especially given the SEC's awareness of the possible implications of it.

I've had an Ahab for about a year now and my feelings about it have fluctuated. Right now I really like the shape and flex, but I was wondering what other people in the community thought so I figured I would throw it out there! What do you think about the Ahab?

2021.10.19 01:12 Ernest_EA FFXIV Economy DD - Chapter 2: Economically Why Proving Emet-Selch is Wrong

a. Preface If you can walk into the Market Board and find Slut Glams, ERP Services, and a Bottle of Poisonous Wine, you're experiencing the impacts of international trade.
International trade allows countries to expand their markets and access goods and services that otherwise may not have been available domestically. As a result of international trade, the market is more competitive. This ultimately results in more competitive pricing and brings a cheaper product home to the consumer.

b. Economy of The First Using some teleportation magic, the Crystal Exarch teleported the entirety of the Crystal Tower onto The First. By doing so, he increased the social surplus and utility of everyone involved at the Crystarium (note: economists tend to collect "utility" instead of "crystals", more "utility" means better). Recall that the Warrior of Light is the only entity that can freely travel across the Source and the First, enabling them to carry anything they desire. This enables the Warrior of Light to act as a middleman for international trades between The Source and The First.

c. "Cross World" International Trade To study from the gains of trade, lets assume a neoclassical trade model based on comparative exchange known as the Exchange Economy Model. For the sake of simplicity, lets assume The Source is endowed with Ascians and The First is endowed with Crystals.
We'll also assume the dwellers of each shards have the same Utility U(C1,C2) where C1 = Consumption of Ascian and C2 = Consumption of Crystals.
Notice how the Source and the First are faced with a constraint where they cannot consume more than what they produce. For example, if the Source wants to consume 10 Ascians and 10 Crystals but they can only produce 10 Ascians and 20 Crystals, they're out of luck. However, since the Warrior of Light can traverse between the two worlds, they can facilitate trades between the two worlds enabling them to consume more than what they produce.

We want to maximize the Utility of everyone involved given the optimal consumption of C1 = Ascians and C2 = Crystals subject to the budget constraint.
Budget Constraint faced by The Source and The First
Key takeaway here is that allowing multiple world shards to exist is a good thing, this allow trades to occur between the worlds thus increasing the utility of everyone involved. In other words, this maximizes the social surplus and is the most optimal outcome.

d. Conclusion Emet-Selch is wrong in that the rejoining will make the world "better" once more. The destruction of the other world shards will only lead to a shrinkage of social surplus, which lowers the Utility for everyone involved. It is true that the Utility of the Ascians will increase from the rejoining, but given that the Marginal Benefit of the rejoining is less than the Marginal Cost of the loss in trades and lives of many across the world shards, it can be concluded that Emet-Selch is wrong.
QED.

2021.10.19 01:12 Pussychewer69 There is Nothing Wrong With Pedophiles and they Shouldn’t be Shamed

It is what they are attracted to and it isn’t their fault. Its like shaming gays for liking something that disgusts straight people. They dont need to get help. Rape is bad and it is the negative trait people associate with Pedophiles. No, we shouldn’t exploit children for porn for pedophiles thats bad for children. Rape is also bad. But a fetish that is permanent? Harmless.

2021.10.19 01:12 Ballistica Is there any evidence to the notion that the proto-christians were organising an armed rebellion against the Roman occupation?

In the song "Stand Up For Judas" by Dick Gaughan, he postulates that the story of Jesus' betrayal by Judas, was a simplifaction of a more overall political upheaval of armed rebellion vs pacifist resistance. While I am not assuming or expecting the song to be based on any form of fact, it got me questioning how much we know about the political landscape at the time.
With my limited understanding and likely incorrect assumptions aside in posing this question, is there any evidence to the attitudes of the general population or political actors during the time at which the bible describes Jesus' crucifiction?
